Applying Design Thinking to Your Life!

I began my career as a graphic designer and layout artist in South Africa in 1999.

After 25 years of becoming an Australian citizen, I have worked as a marketing and communications officer at Mackay Christian College.

My career has never been dull. I specialise in pixel-perfect design and enjoy creating modern and trendy designs. I am a problem-solver who always keeps pursuing the perfect solution. I always seek to improve my creative technology skills, digital marketing, and media communication.

Over the years, I have received a lot of great advice, but one thing that has always stuck with me is to "always create room to explore." If we are always busy and our schedules are flexible, we will take advantage of opportunities to learn and experience something new. Although I find it challenging at times, I make room for exploration. I don't limit myself to topics only related to my industry. Going outside of your comfort zone gives you perspective. It helps me think outside of the box and has helped me create new ideas and solutions that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Finding balance in life is a challenge, but it is crucial to maintain a healthy lifestyle.     We all need to balance work, play, relaxation, and sleep. As a family, we work as a team to communicate and ensure everyone has a part to play in keeping the balance. Even the smallest changes to our routine can make a significant difference. No right or wrong choices exist, and preferences may change at different stages in our family's life.

Coco Chanel is a woman who inspires me. Born Gabrielle "Coco" Bonheur Chanel, she founded the famous Chanel brand. I love how she brought tactile liberation to women through fashion. Although she was sometimes controversial, there is no denying her long-lasting influence on style and the women's movement. She was also an early example of a successful businesswoman who paved the way for many after her. Who has yet to hear of her signature scent, Chanel No. 5?

Finally, there are days when I feel discouraged. In those moments, I turn to a bit of lipstick and fragrance to help me feel self-assured.

Coco Chanel once said, "The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud."
